This minor version of Sandy Boys, which is usually played with C#s, came to me in a cabin at Rocky Gap State Park. I was practicing some tunes and had this minor version pop into my head, maybe being related to the minor, modal themes in the music I was writing. A lot of tunes from this album have “hits” or longer, danceable rhythmic patterns in their B parts and this variation is no exception. Heater Don’t Stop is a tune I absolutely adore playing, but the 5 hits in a row, while unexpected and exciting to play and hear, make the tune difficult to program for a dance, alas.
