I wrote Plaid waltz in a cabin with an old chair that was upholstered in Plaid fabric. I was intending to write something Old-Timey, and I was slightly appalled that it came out modal like so many of the other tunes on the album. The B part is legit stolen from Fanfare from the Common Man, by Aaron Copeland. It’s a piece I’ve never performed, since I play the violin and not the trumpet, but several times I’ve had to sit around in the orchestra while the brass players play it.
