Bacon Rind is a tune I found as I was researching a different Old-Time tune for the Fiddle Studio Podcast and found Pete Showman’s collection of fiddle tunes. I ended up spending a couple hours on Pete’s site which is fantastic and ran across this fun G reel which is traditional. Two Fires was written in the PATC Hermitage cabin in Michaux State Forest. This was an early trip, before I had the hang of keeping myself warm, and may have been the scariest trip just due to the very cold temperatures, my inability to chop wood, and the lack of cell service. However, I stuck it out, kept the fire going, and as usual had a glorious morning of coffee and hiking. In the evening I wrote Heater Don’t Stop, so while it was a stressful experience, I got some great music out of it!
